Paul, it may be that these boats have different setups, actually I know they do as far as hardware and clearances around this specific area. I have a 79 with a pop top and I assure you I raise my mast from the AFT position. I have built an AFT crutch that is used to support the mast during transit, as I mentioned. This crutch consists of 2 rollers on a "V" at the top of the crutch and an inner square pipe that raises & gets pinned which makes it another approx 4' higher (8' total). The mast is unhooked from the forward holder & rolled back on this raised crutch until the large mast foot pin can be engaged. Then from this semi raised position it's just a matter of winching the forestay with the setup I have up front.
