Hi, We were there on a short cruise 2 years ago, and stopped at 2 places worth mentioning. The first is Port Washington. Because of late tides on the East River, we made this our first stop and were pleasantly surprised. The town moorings are free for the first 2 days. A great town with lots of good restaurants. We took the train into NYC Very easy. On the way back there was a bad weather forecast, so after exiting the East Rv. we went to Great Kills, on Staten Island. Stayed for 2 days, waiting for weather. They have a wonderful luxurious bus that goes into the city for about $5.00 r/t. Both of these places are cheap to stay. You'll need that money for the high marina fees in LIS.
