I'd like to be able to go up rigs on my own. I'm not a fan of carrying 200'+ of rope in a 4:1 tackle. What are your thoughts for hoisting a dedicated climbing line and using 2 ascenders? Looks like the ascenders are around $60 ea. plus the line, which I have no idea which kind to buy. My current method involves me tied into a climbing harness and having someone below help grind while I climb.

I like the dedicated climbing line b/c it will work better with the ascenders instead of stripped dyneema or 1/4" halyards on different boats.

Also, can I use that same climbing rope with a figure 8 and lower myself that way? Instead of having to slowly come back down with the ascenders?

And to the OP, I once was stuck up my own rig for a while when the person below got a bad override on the winch. Now I carry a knife and a tether to transfer the load if need be.
