Doug, I would just run up one side, whichever side is the more direct run, and then up the rest. If you need to use a length of bungee to jump past something, that could work. Or you could go up a shroud instead of the backstay.

The idea is to get a more-or-less straight more-or-less vertical wire going up for the antenna, and the only reason you don't glue it onto the mast is because that would be a ground plane running right alongside it.

Even the ARRL goes on record saying that every boat is a different case, even "identical" twins because of small differences. Try hoisting the GAM in a couple of different ways, making some non-local contacts, checking SWR, and use what actually works best. It may very well not be what "theory" says "should" work best.
