Peter, try to find a stereo with an RF remote. This way you will not need
line of sight to use the remote. Crutchfield.com sells some. Another great option is the Fusion 700 series which has an Android/iPhone/iPad remote application. You can literally bury the head unit and control the stereo via wifi and your mobile phone or tablet.
