After following the discussion on another thread on taxes on MD, the Delaware River and Bay gets even more attractive.

There is a fragmented Industrial Hertiage Trail ( to be completed eventually) from Trenton to Wilmington along the Delaware River with close to 400 years of European industrial development overlaying 10,000 years of human occupation. The shore line is a history lesson.

If the desire is a bucolic shore line then go upriver from the Tacony Bridge or down river from Marcus Hook, and if you just want to be alone go to the bay below the Cohansey.
