As others suggested, check the keel cable. If you will be trailering very far, check that the wheel bearings are well greased. There are some common upgrades for the C22, such as replacing the keel bearing so it doesn't knock, and adding transom scuppers.

While sailing, know that it is possible to sink a C22. Keep lockers latched. When in frisky conditions consider putting hatch boards in, and be prepared to release the mainsheet if overpowered.

Have fun, and expect a steep learning curve the first season.

BTW, I'm not sure PCA Gold is sold in California. Look for a bottom paint that is good for trailerable boats.
