Scott, if your 12v loads are light enough so that the charger is really powering them and the batteries are just watching the show, then there's no downside to doing it that way.
OTOH if your loads are actually pulling down the batteries, that's still using up discharge cycles. In which case I'd just beef up the charger to prevent that.

Right and a way to check would be to monitor the voltage. If you turn off the charger you'll see the voltage from the batteries alone. If when the charger is on the voltage stays above this then any power you're drawing is off the charger. If it goes below then you're pulling some current from the battery.
