This is not a tried and true method, just something that one of my fellow boaters in the office did.
Of course, they haven't had the new name applied to the boat yet...so this could all be bunk.

Yea, I read somewhere else, recently, that you need to wipe out any evidence of the old name.
I also read, in a book about sailing around cape cod, that you just needed to do it while on dry land.
My O'day had it's name changed somewhere along the
line as I could see the outline of one name and the guy I got the boat from said he found documentation of a different name. I never named that boat.
Personally, I feel that taking an old boat like mine and bringing it back to life should, in itself, appease, the bad luck fairies.
