I'm not seeing a spinnaker, just a jib. Clearly a small keel with a bulb on the end.
Only 400 yards off shore. Clearly more sailboat than Mr Kovacks ought to be sailing. He was prepared for a simple sail along the shore and didn't recognize that the waves and the wind along with the water temp were all working against him.
Time to go back to the Sunfish and wait until August for better temps.
