I don't think there are enough uniform characteristics of needs and behaviors among people to allow this question to have any accurate answer, but I'll share what worked for us. When we lived aboard from the time our children were infants to the age of seven and nine we were comfortable on a 33' boat, but when they were older, through their teenage years, we all needed more space. With the difference in ages between your children, you might not need as much space. We always found it important for any individual of the family to be able to find a small separate space for independent activity. An enclosed cockpit and thoughtful use of deck space can add much. Just as the needs of families are not alike, the boats of the same length are not alike. Take care and joy, Aythya crew
