natural draft is about 70 -80% afue. Natural draft is also way cheaper to manufacture. Energy star rates are over 90% afue and extract so much heat from the burned gas they need a condensation drain. but of course home owners are into the numbers. We installed (I'm in the business) a dual purpose on demand in my house in Dec. cut the hot water and heating costs by 60% from the oil fired boiler I had installed when I bought the house.
