I have a 6 year old daughter (Zoe) who loves to read, and is just starting to show an interest in sailing. Last night as I was tucking her in, she asked me why none of the books about pirates she's read ever have a girl as captain?

After a brief explanation of 'traditional' gender roles, and how things used to be in the olden days but now girls can do anything boys can do, I promised to find her some books with girls as captains of the ship. Now I need help!

So far, I've only found 'Pirate Girl' by Cornelia Funke. Any other suggestions that would be appropriate for a (somewhat precocious) six year old?
