hey, Jim. My Newport had the same model. The post from gmackey is what I did. The only thing is the oil dip stick is on the left. The D950 model is correct if you want to change it out. Same engine all the way around. Bolts right in. cheaper than the marinized version.
The oil dip stick IS on the port side on Kubota engines. That hole was simply plugged and the port side standard dipstick installed on the boat engines. A friend of mine bought a used M25 (same as the XP except for a few details and a D850 block) and considered using the port side for his Pearson 30-something.
The marinized version only adds the HX - not a big deal
Buy Kubota, save mucho $$.
