Why not simply keep the boat on the Chesapeake such as Sassafras River, Bohemia River, Worton Creek, Tolchester etc. .... and then you dont have to spend time transiting the C&D, especially with its adverse currents.

Its ~22 nMi from the Delaware River entrance of the C&D (12 mile long) canal to only the 'beginnings' of good sailing in the Chesapeake (translation: 4.5 hours @ 5 knots and with NO current) ... or an additional 1 to 1-1/2hrs driving time by auto.
