Gary, I got wise to the tarp thing about 5-years ago, only mine is white. Same deal though, stretch it over the boom and secure with bungees. Helps keep the area shaded from sun. Haven't used it lately as my present boat has one huge Bimini (blue) and even has shade screens for the sides and rear. It truly does help make the cockpit more comfortable when you can shade the area. BTW, my Admiral is about to change out the Bimini fabric and it will be cadet gray when next I see you.

July 4 was a hot day on the Chesapeake but I just had to get out of the harbor. Found light winds but pleasant enough to stay out for a couple hours. Didn't get 'hot' feeling until we were running downwind on the last leg home.
