Throttle cable detents
Decatur, you said earlier that the control detents were loose or something.
Check inside where the cable ends are attached to the internal bell crank mechanisms. The cable is actually two parts: the cable itself and an outside sheath. One slides inside the other. Both must be firmly attached.
The sheath is affixed to the control mechanism by a clip that grasps it around a notched 'waist.' It's easy for that clip to come undone and, if so, the bell crank will move the entire cable--sheath and all--sloppily. That could be your problem.
Then again, it could be the ball bearings mentioned above.
