The trip sounded fairly reasonable until you said 'cruise the eastern Caribbean'. Why not skip that and only deal with the western Carib? Leaving Canal to get N or E is tough. Typically people do it Nov, trying to beat the start of the tradewinds, or in mid-April to May trying to make the passage after the trades have slowed and before the hurricanes have started. You can leave Cristobal and head N to San Andreas, or for the Caymans. Then work N around the west end of Cuba toward the Keys.
We did Seattle to the Chesapeake over a 2 year run.
