My grandparents in New Brunswick had a wood stove in the kitchen, that they later converted to coal oil. The hot water tank was in a closet beside the stove and pipes ran from it through the firebox in the stove. Right up until the mid-70's this was their heating and cooking. Made for a hot kitchen in the summer but toasty warm in winter. Homemade bread and rolls always seemed better when cooked in the wood stove.
