I have had both. A true, manual only winch is simple and easy to use usually giving 8"(200mm) on each double stroke (forward and back) the handle needs to be a bout 3' for ease or use. An electric winch is a godsend (when they don,t break down )they are about double the speed of a manual but if they do break down and you need to do it manually they are lacking in efficiency especially the low line designs. The worst enemy of an electric anchor winch is lack of use.
