Re: Hurricane Preparation

I'm in Maryland now after 2 years on the Inner Banks of NC. Scary there. You will get slammed...eventually. Last year my Cal 9.2 survived the eye of 110 mph wind passing overhead and an 11 ft storm surge. I had 2 anchors set. A large Rocna with 90' chain and a lewmar hook with chain and line. The line broke but the rocna held with no damage. I was on Broad Creek, in 8' of water. I think had I had more rode the line would have held but we only put out 80 on the second anchor. At 8:1, I'd need 64 foot (for 8 foot depth)...but the surge took it to 18' depth. That would call for 144' of line. Hence losing an anchor. But hey, no complaints! All I lost was that, and I have 2 close friends who lost their entire homes...washed away. Scary things those hurricanes. I read don't be on the same ocean as one. I agree and have no intention to...
