Just a few inches?? Not sure that that will be your problem then, but you'll need to have a look at the hoisted sail to see the true actual distance left between swivel and sheave (and it's difficult to judge from the dock or the deck)
Halyard wrap is more likely if it's a foot or more between swivel and sheave.
In any event the pennant won't hurt as long as it doesn't end up too long...
