OP: This single sentence captures your need for a crawl then walk then run approach to your dreams. You have NO IDEA what you are getting into. Serendipity may ride your shoulders for a bit but this statement shows that your understanding of seamanship is startlingly immature. You need more than schooling in basic navigation and piloting. You need to develop good judgement. Gain experience. Sail with someone who is experienced. Every action you take at sea is about safety. Every plan you make is about safety. Every mile you sail is about safety. Not just your safety but those who inhabit the waters you enter. Managing risks to both you and them is your primary job, Skipper.
