Re: First Experience Crewing

I've noticed that baking soda is rapidly becoming the latest craze as a cure-all. I was recently talking to a sort of survivalist type - he lived in a floating community of like minded steel boat owners. He was extolling the virtues of baking soda and an alkaline body as an anti-cancer agent. He also claimed to have four PhD's (by age 40).

I've done exactly zero research on the subject but any time I hear about a particular substance having magical curative and longevity powers my scatological radar goes into overdrive.

Usually I hear such stories from elderly married women.

George Burns, when he was in his late 90's and still performing, had a great line. He'd light up one of his trademark stogies and say;

"My doctors have been telling me for years that I have to quit smoking these things, but they're all dead now."

Moderation in all things, including moderation.

I, myself, personally intend to continue being outspoken and opinionated, intolerant of all fanatics, fools and ignoramuses, deeply suspicious of all those who have "found the answer" and on my bad days, downright rude.
