I spent a month in Charleston anchored off the City Marina... the sailing there is incredible, but much of the shoreline between the city marina and the coast guard staion is mud flats at low tide, and most of the harbor has a 6-7'' tidal range, so you have to time your arrivals and departures accordingly - its quite common for there to be a dozen boats sitting anchored in the mud (mine among them, several times)
