To get them through the gravel you need to pound on top with a sledge hammer while turning them. Once you get past the layer of gravel they go in much easier. Two of mine were in gravel this time, but they went in 3 feet.

Gary - I had a sledge hammer and was pounding at the same time I rotated them with a 2' rebar through the loop. It wasn't enough to get them to engage. If I had a shovel I would have tried to dig through the gravel, but I ran out of light and had to head in. The boat came out fine, so no regrets. Next week I'll step the mast, which makes it virtually impossible to blow the boat over.
