Re: Anyone have their davits set up for one person to use?

One can implement a single line lift by using a spreader bar slightly longer than the distance between lift points on the boat at the level of the boat. The slings attached to the boat are connected to the spreader bar fore'n aft at the lift points. A (multi-part) lift line is attached to the motor end of the boat with the line led over a block at the davit and back to the block at the spreader bar, then along the length of the spreader to a single block at the forward end of the boat above the forward slings, around that 90 and up to a single block at the second davit and from there, through lead blocks, through a cam-cleat and to a convenient winch or horned cleat. Assuming one has to lift a combined weight (motor and boat) of 200#, a 5:1 tackle at the aft davit would require only 40# of tension in the lift line. Because of the spreader bar, both ends of the boat must raise at the same rate. If the foregoing is unclear, I can make a sketch but it's really not complicated.

FWIW...

"It is not so much for its beauty that the sea makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air, that emanation from the waves, that so wonderfully renews a weary spirit."
