My Danforth held well in the muddy / weedy bottom of Lake St. Clair on a nasty night.
A friend of mine who also sails the Great Lakes speaks highly of the CQR in very weedy or hard packed bottom conditions. The point digs into surfaces that other anchors just slide over.
Also, FWIW, to improve the holding of an anchor, have you considered using a sentinel? I have a 6 pound mushroom anchor that I keep on board for extra weight on the rode if needed.
