Boat aging

I''ve a question about typical life expectancy of fiberglass boats. My wife and I plan on purchasing a sailboat in about 3 years that we''d like to currently keep for sailing in the summer months and for full cruising/liveaboard for retirement (~15 years. We''ll be about 44 when we purchase). Being in the Northeast, the boat will be hauled each season.

Based on what I can afford (i.e. monthly payments, insurance, fees, taxes etc...) I''m probably looking at purchasing a boat that already is between 10 and 15 years old.

Will fiberglass hold up for this length of time assuming adequate maintenance/repair or is there a point at which a major re-coat must be considered?

Thanks in advance!!
