I am sure it happens in other situations. I am also sure the spade of my I-28 is so well balanced there is almost no information coming back from the tiller. I have a wheel and my emergency tiller stands vertical, in place, attached to the rudder post. I can, and do, switch to the short tiller when not standing to look for lobster pots. It just lets you steer the boat with zero effort. That has its own real advantages. I can easily steer the Islander with its sails. Fun!
