My tank had also been unused for about 9 years. It had some mold but when I went to replace the hoses I busted the fittings. So I cut the tank out and put in a flexible bladder. I never drink it so I can't tell you what it tastes like but I'm glad it's there.
This is the way I am leaning...I really like the idea of as many systems as possible working.
