One has a weekend to go out on the boat. Plan a trip to destination X for the night, and return to port the next day. Saturday dawns, no or too little wind. Stay at the dock, motor away from the dock and sit, or motor until the wind picks up, or, if it doesn't pick up, you reach your destination and hope for wind on the return?

When I'm cruising, I prefer to sail. I don't though, have any interest in just floating in the same spot all day.

Yes, sailing is special. So is hiking or cross-country skiing the Alaska backwoods, or canoeing a river where towns are days apart. Different things appeal to different people. Seems a bit harsh to call someone a moron, just cause they find their enjoyment a different way.
