So sorry to hear this. Must be tough...
I'm not so sure the engine wouldn't be salvageable if someone got onto it soon, and the rest of the damage doesn't sound too extreme but of course there could be hidden issues still at play.
Good luck in how to decide how to proceed. My sympathies.
