Re: good quality sails?

Check sail prices at boat shows or at least ask for the discount when a show is on. I bought two sails from North at Annapolis several years ago and their discount was 25% while the other sailmakers were typically at 10%. The result was that North was cheaper than Tasker or Far East Sails. The sails have worked out extremely well. The assymetric does not get too much use, but the #2 has been up for considerably more than 20,000 and still seems to have decent shape. It is currently out for a second visit to the sailmaker to take care of chafed stitching and wear at the head where it goes into the foil of the furler, but that is not bad after such a long distance. It will certainly complete the circumnavigation and still be ok for coastal cruising.

Big change in our status. we have decided that we cannot safely (in my mind) leave South Africa this season allowing for the time needed for my hand to recover from its injury. All typing is right-handed at this point. We will leave Ainia in SA and head north and west in the early southern summer ~Oct/Nov?

You can check OnAinia.blogspot.com for updates on our travels whenever I get around to it.
