Totally agree with Smack. Getting the theory is great from the courses, but being with more experienced sailors asking questions just speeds up the process. I like ghoing out on some of my friends boats even if we arent racing so I can see how they set things up and think.

It is important to get practical experience on your own. But if you only have yourself to learn from...that will eventually become self limiting.

I agree with Chuck also on some of the technical classes like diesel or even elctrical which I have taken and are taught in our area.
