where I made the cuts depended on the logistics of 1. higher is best so as to reduce any chance of incurring "fluids" leaking, and 2. where they could be pulled out of their hiding places easiest...there were a lot of hoses crammed under the sink cabinet, enough to where you could not "see" the ball valves for water intake waste exit or sink drain , but had to feel for them{thats gonna change this winter!} all told i probably went through a six pack of sams
sitting in front of this array of hoses valves fittings et al figuring out where to cut and how i was going to remove them and in what order{i may have spent alot of time time planning but my sneakers stayed clean and dry!}
