Re: New Sails?
I bought a new main at the end of the summer.
Very similar to CalebD's configuration:
Dacon - because it's cheaper than other materials and lasts longer and I don't race
Full battens - give better performance and help the sail last longer too
Fuller roach - more sail area = more power
Loose foot - easier to adjust sail shape
1 reef - I've been sailing for about 10 years now and I have never needed a second reef (and I don't want to start now)
2 draft stripes -so I can adjust the sail shape
I went with my local UK Halsey loft because I have dealt with them in the past. The salesman comes to my boat and measures it. Then, when the sail is ready he comes out to remove the old one and will install the new one.
If I had the budget I would add a stack pack / lazy bag type sail cover that connects to the boom and lazy jacks to make it a little faster to go sailing and put the main away at the end of the day.
