Resurrected a pretty old thread here.

Nevertheless, the big advantage to a transom hung rudder is the ability to carry some type of spare or repair to do offshore. Tear off any keel or skeg hung or spade and your first worry is stopping any flooding that may come through the post/linkage. Then your remedy would have to be some jerry-rigged emergency system.
