Re: Help Needed With New Bombay Co. 44 History

The Maurice G. Declercq you inquired about is my father. He is the designer of your boat and of the Winchtailer. He is also the designer of the Offshore 36 and the Flying Buffalo. Born in 1918 to Belgian immigrants, Declercq was an engineer from the Detroit area. The prototypes of his boats were designed and built for his personal use. The Flying Buffalo was one of the winningest boats in the Great Lakes in the Mackinac races and the Mills Cup, in particular. The Spirit of Michigan, the prototype for your boat was built for the Canada's Cup series. Declercq retired to St. Petersburg, Fla., where he died a few years ago.
