I think any Naval base that operated for 100 years, mostly before "environment" was a word in widespread use, would be able to pollute prodigiously for longer than 20 years after closing.
I, myself, personally intend to continue being outspoken and opinionated, intolerant of all fanatics, fools and ignoramuses, deeply suspicious of all those who have "found the answer" and on my bad days, downright rude.
