Re: Underwater camera for bottom maintenance

Frogwatch,

I have been using a USB camera for a couple of years. I put it in a clear plastic container (waterproof) and extended the USB cable with about 20' of CAT-5 cable. I have experimented with a couple of LED flashlights for illumination but want to have a more permanent solution by supplying power through the cable. The lighting has to be adjusted a bit to minimize glare. I use 1/2" plastic conduit with a couple of 45-degree elbows to reach the bottom of the boat (easy to set up when the boat is hauled for winter storage) and just plug it into my laptop. It's cheap (the camera was about $10) and especially nice to take a quick look if I think the propeller might have snagged something.
