Yeah I'm concerned about opening up that gear box. The whole lower unit must have been left in the water at some point by the PO so there's corrosion everywhere, and I can't even get the prop shaft out because the seal between the lower unit and the metal retainin part is completely corroded. I might be able to bang it off eventually, but prob not without breaking the aluminum and then having to order new parts, again.

I really only need to replace the seal, I wonder if there is some way of cutting it, wrapping it around the shaft then somehow gluing it back together therefore not having to get this stupid thing off in the first place?
Maybe I just need to buy the shop manual, which costs more than all the parts I ordered for this motor together unfortunately...
"Seal" or "gasket"? If the gasket, maybe clean the surfaces as best as you can and use Permatex orange silicone based gasket sealer, put lots of it on
and just barely snug it down. Then after a day or two, re-torque to specs. I would be reluctant to pull the shaft out of the gearbox unless you have nothing to lose.
