Re: Oh what to do? boat on rocks/reef/sand/mud

OK here is my list. It assumes that I am in passage making mode.

Drop dink and fit OB aprox 200lbs.

Sound the area from dink using oar which is marked with the boat's draft

Layout kedge in direction of deep water and tension using cockpit winches.

Drop both anchors and all chain from bow. 2 x 50lb anchors and 400ft chain 770lbs.

Empty water tanks 150 galls 1200lbs

If it has not refloated the boat would be heeled over using a masthead halyard. [ I would use this strategy earlier if help was on scene or I had crew onboard. ]

The strategy of heeling the boat using a masthead halyard is the key to getting most boats off in my experience. Not bilge keelers or wings though !

In 10 years of liveaboard cruising I have helped in a number of rescues. A call on the VHF often produces a dinghy squadron.
