Re: Cockpit Locker Lids

Water got into the plywood core of my starboard cockpit locker lid through the hinge bolts and rotted the wood in the area near the hinge bolts. When I would tighten the bolts, the nuts would just sink in. I used a small hole saw to drill out the interior fiberglass and the wet plywood at each hole leaving the thicker exterior fiberglass intact. I filled the depression with epoxy putty then redrilled the bolt holes. The holes nearest the edges had to be counterbored so that the nuts were depressed and did not strike the locker lip when the lids were closed. I did it to both the port and starboard lids while I was at it.
