Re: Need advice on preparing for Pacific crossing

Sounds like the dream trip of a lifetime. Have a friend who is thinking of doing the same trip from Portland. God I wish I could go, but I'm a wage slave at this point.

As far as food goes, CaptAaron (sp?) from this board has a thread in provisioning about not having to refrigerate foods, where he mentioned Spirulina as a good sustaining food. I bought a pound and I am currently doing two doses of one tsp to 12 oz of orange juice a day. Incredible energy you get out of this superfood. Read up on Green Foods. Spirulina current dosage gives me 2g protein, and tons of other important nutrients.

Also, take a look at Sailing the Farm, the book he mentioned. There's a PDF version. You can grow food aboard.

Lots of other good information in there, too.

Please take lots of pics, inside and out, lots of Sunsets, waves crashing over the bow, you know what I mean. It's BOAT PORN, at least to me.

Now, others here advise and I agree, get a pressure cooker. I remember GrandMa cooking with one when I was a babe. Been using that old technology here for last 5 years. Can't imagine an efficient kitchen/galley without one. There are threads here re pressure cooking. I make the BEST beans and rice. (ya right). Can cook a whole 5# chicken in eh about 20 minutes, where the meat falls off the bones, at least on land.

Anyway, do some easily simple research on the net. download, print, get your charts, and again, please take lots of pics.
