I have owned a P36- 1973 for the last 10 years. She is an absolute delight to sail and very forgiving. I race her solo and always place. I sail her in the Great Lakes. I take out numerous newbees to sailing on her and and she has never disapointed them. She is stiff, yet yielding to the wind. She is large enough to entertain 8-10 people easily and just as easily to sail by yourself. She is a delight. There is one for sail at the Great Lakes Yacht Club in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan.
Be sure not to pay more than she can be insured for. Currently I have negotiated with Boat US to keep mine insured for $38K as much as they would prefer to only insure her for $28k. I had her decks painted 10 years ago, and the hull painted for the 2nd time 3 years ago. I replaced all the electronics and added a cockpit monted color
GPS. I added refrigeration, changed the fiberglass center
hatch to a larger flat
lewmar hatch, replaced all the windows, upgraded the primary
winch's to 38 Barient's. Have had the engine (atomic 4) overhauled, (not rebilt) twice in 10 years and added an elctronic ignition this year. Oh and the most important. I changed the folding prop to a 2 blade fixed plastic prop out of New Zealand 7 years ago. The best damn upgrade I did to her.
All the best,
jo
