Re: Suddenly inherited old boat
I am new here and just spent the last hour reading posts. I have SO much to learn!
This seemed like the best thread for my first post since I just inherited a 1979 Cal 2-27, docked in Santa Cruz, CA. She is a pretty boat, but neglected a bit and in need of lots of TLC. I hired a surveyor and have begun fixing her up.
I don't have much sailing experience. I have been crew and first mate (on the boat I inherited), but never before stepped up to skipper. I'm a bit intimidated by the whole thing, mustering up my courage and taking one step at a time into this big adventure. Very glad that my son has decided to join me and we will co-own her.
It is awesome that you are all here to share your stories and advice. Thanks to the folks here on sailnet and my friendly neighbors in the harbor I will get past the fear to the fun. Maybe even before the really nice weather arrives.
The mid- to late '70's era Cal's are excellent yachts and particularly the 2-27 so you're ahead on that count. As for what information you think you need, it might be wise to start your own thread. There are many reasonably knowledgeable folks here abouts that can give you suggestions but a thread that began in 2006 might just be ignored.
N'any case, good luck with your project.
