David, I just did what you are contemplating for the very reasons you suggest. Bought a virtually new 37' Bene well tricked out, some but not much to add for down the ditch, off the coast and Bahammas and the Carrib. Rear and forward cabins-with doors, great galley, etc. Easy sail plan. Spent over a year looking at various boats weighing most of the arguments raised on this thread. I know what it takes to refit an older boat having owned two over the years (not counting the 8 year old Catilina 310 I just sold) and did not want to cut into precious retirement spending time on a refit-always more time than one thinks-when I can be cruising with my lady .
