I removed ours mid-summer cruise on the hook, so no heat gun. A sharp edged 2 inch angled blade scraper and several hours to do our smallish cockpit sole. (Did I mention the blister? ) Not fun...

Once the bulk of the material is off you can use a solvent for the residue, no risk of prolonged exposure as most solvents flash off quickly enough.
