Kat sailor, I repowered 2 yrs ago, with a beta 35HP 100 amp, which comes wf the serpintine belt, I chose the ABVW waterproof panel with tach, warning lites and buzzers. Another option I went for was the high rise SS exhaust elbow. I did the install and I am very happy with this engine. I had a tangle of wires hoses, a real mess, I removed it all. You are correct, this is the time to clean clean, paint, and look at sound proofing. I think one of the best things I installed was a 24" florescent light. Mine is a center cockpit with a 65" shaft, my dealer gave me plan to make a small plywood engine template and and as I had to cut down my engine beds approx 2" it was a huge help. see pics for shaft align...Good luck any ?? ask away I learned ton doing this job.
